Heart Rate Monitors
Posted May 13th, 2008 by Kevin MayoHi All,
Can anyone advise in heart rate monitors? My old Polar HRM (circa 1989) has lost its street cred along with the battery.
I am after a cheap HRM that uses a chest strap and its peferable to download the data to a PC. I do not require GPS as well.
The prices seem to vary greatly, so if anyone has any advise; please let me know.

New wheels/tyres
Posted May 12th, 2008 by John DingleHi all
I'm finally thinking of upgrading the wheel and tyre set that my (9 speed) bike came with - i.e. basic Shimano wheels and Vittoria tyres - and would appreciate some advice/recommendations...
The budget will hopefully be in the region of £200 - £250. I've been leaning towards some Fulcrum 5's with some sort of Continental tyre but I'll happily lean away again if someone steers me in a better direction or says that I'd need to spend a bit more to make it worthwhile upgrading from what I've already got.
Thanks!
John
Heart rate
Posted May 8th, 2008 by Adam MooreHi guys,
Just wanted to pick a few brains about heart rates for a friend of mine.
She recently has starting training for triathlons but has always been involved with some form of exercise since 13. But since training triathlon specific for the last two months she has been using a heart rate monitor. She has told me that she is feeling really fit and in the best shape of her life since training regularly but her hear rate is very high after a standard running session.
Attack of the Googlebots (slow website)
Posted May 6th, 2008 by Site AdministratorSome of you have noticed the website being a bit slow recently, apologies for that and thank you to those who pointed it out. I think it's sorted now, but if you notice any more problems, please let me know.
The problem seems to have been the Googlebots indexing pages for the search engine. They were trying to index every day of the calendar, which is created on the fly and goes back to when time began... this overloaded the server. Every day's a school day!

Wet suit purchase advice
Posted April 22nd, 2008 by James CurrieOpen water swimming is about to start so I need to buy a wet suit. Only one problem - I'm clueless!! (specifically about what wet suit to buy - I literally know nothing about wet suits).
What kind will suit me (no pun intended) - I'm a strong swimmer?
Where can you buy them (I take it you should get them fitted in a shop)?
Where is cheap to buy them?
What brands should I try to get and which to avoid?
Any help with these questions will be appreciated......
Iron Man, Oxford, 2nd May?
Posted April 17th, 2008 by Nick HalesAnyone want to go and see Iron Man when it's released on the 2nd of May, and maybe have some food and a beer or two? An informal social before the race season kicks off... Post a reply here if you're interested.
The film looks amazing and has an awesome theme song by Black Sabbath. Well the first part of that's a lie, it looks dreadful, but come on, it's called Ironman, so what's not to like?
And in related news, we still need a Social Sec. It's the best job in the club, so email the committee if you're keen.
Ironman Reading
Posted January 23rd, 2008 by Stephanie StrachanHi
Following last night's Ironman evening where some recommended reading was given, I thought I'd add in a book that some of you might like:
"Becoming an Ironman - First Encounters with the Ultimate Endurance Event" - Kara Douglass Thom - ISBN 1-891369-31-8 (I got my copy from Amazon)
UK Ironman 70.3 2008
Posted November 11th, 2007 by James HolleyHi fellow Tri club members
I have entered next years 70.3 Ironman.
I was after any advice from anybody who had done this event previously with regards good training tips, information on the course or just general hints and tips on getting to and from the course.
Thanks
James
