Only two days after the Thame Triathlon that saw 50 Oxford Tri members compete and with the nine-up time-trial on the same night, it was no surprise that numbers of the seventh edition of the BaR training event were well down. Some seemed to have ducked out at the last minute, perhaps because the weather looked quite threatening. There was quite a strong wind on the bike course but it stayed more or less dry during the event. The bike times were also hampered by a lot of horse vans and horse trailers going to and fro Kirtlington. Despite all that, there are again some remarkable results to report of.

Three of the ten starters went round the course for the first time. Welcome to Kerry Steele (first woman), Morag Stewart (second women) and Russell Young. I hope you enjoyed it and you are coming back to see how fast you can go without that wind.

Despite the difficult conditions, Bernard Calnan and Tom Blincowe continued their amazing run of personal bests this year. Tom has now taken over seven minutes off the time he recorded back in May, finishing second in 60:44 and for the first time beating his father Andre Blincowe, and by quite some margin. Only Tim Doole managed to stay ahead of the family duel for the win, but narrowly missing out on a new pb himself.

Thanks to the time-keepers Al Bell, Allan Molyneux and Mike Dunmore and all who came to support.

Next event: 11th August [sign-up here]

. See you there, Hanno.
