Solent Swim
I've been in touch with a group called Champion Behaviours via the Race New Forest website, who organise an annual open water swim from the Isle of Wight back to the mainland. Its sounds like quite a tough swim, but I've always quite liked the thought of swimming from one land mass to another and swimming the channel is probably beyond me...
The actual date is yet to be confirmed but last year's was on 18th July. I thought it may be of interest to other Ox Tri people who wanted to set themselves a tough OW swim target. Some more info below, I have the organisers contact details if you are interested, or can't find them on the website.

"The Solent Swim is a very challenging open water swim. The distance is approx 2.5 - 3 miles depending on the tide/wind. We have plenty of kayaks and RIBs supporting the swimmers and protecting the area where the swimmers are. We also have the Solent Coastguard on one of the RIBS. Last year the swim went from Hampstead ledge on the Isle of Wight to a small beach at the end of Tanners Lane, in Lymington. We took 45 swimmers across last year, with around 6 swimmers not completing the swim."

Hi,I too am intrested in doing this.Having swam the Hellespont last year,something a little closer to home would be great.There are loads of open water swims out there to do.
This sounds like just like the sort of challenge I like, I've done a few 2.4 mile swims but not from one island to another! Thanks Andrew for highlighting. Jane
Oh yeah, this could be brilliant! I'm well up for this! Just hope it's going to be late July again this year since my IM is Late June this year, but I love the idea!

This sounds great! Point to point events are the best. Assuming I can still swim I'm well up for it.
Are wetsuits allowed? Or do they play by the funny channel swimming rules?

No date confirmed yet Ian, but the organiser said she would let me know asap when they have arranged it. I think its quite a small event so it might not be confirmed for while yet.

I am sure she will add anyone interested to the mailing list. I think its a charity event, so may come with a minimum sponsorship / donation rather than an entry fee.
The head says Don't be mad but I have the heart of a Triathlete, so YES, it sounds a great challenge.
