Marin Roughride - June 13th

I received this info from the organisers of the Marin Roughride, sounds like fun. Anyone done it before or up for it this year?

The Marin Roughride 2010 - Sunday, June 13th 2010

Press Release

For 2010 the eighth Marin Roughride is on June 13th, the same weekend as
last year. Entries are initially up yet again by 20% in the first week.

The Marin Roughride is a moorland route with less road than any other
event in England and Wales. Good relations with local landowners allow the
organisers to use miles of tracks not normally open to riders.

This is a wilderness long distance ride for around 1,000 riders, on well
flagged ancient routes in the Welsh borders. Everyone is out to enjoy
themselves, singly and as a group. The achievement is to finish. The
marshalls are there to help you do just that.

The tiny market town of Kington (population 3,000) has the CAMRA county
pub of the year, The Tavern, plus 7 more and hosts its town festival on
the same weekend. The scenic campsite sits on the edge of Hergest Ridge
and overlooks the town and surrounding hills.

The entry fee is the same as last year, including camping, event tee shirt
and post ride meal, courtesy of Wilf s new owners!

Hi

I have done this ride for the last 6 years,it usually consists of either a 45km or 85km ride that you can decide on the day, both rides are great especially if you like lots of steep off road climbing(not for the faint hearted),with some equally great fast and technical descending(proper bums squeazed tight stuff)!!

Would be some great cross training as well as improving bike handling skills.

The event is well organised and the food at wilfs is a welcome end to the ride.

Kington is ok with a couple of nice pubs/food off the beaten track.(real ale at unbelievable prices)

Anybody thinking of doing this event i would recomend the small campsite in Kington(5 min walk from event centre) which i think is about £3.50/4.00 pppn and you get proper toilets and a hot shower and its never busy you just turn up and pitch, the campsite provided is a field full of thistles, sheep poo and chemi toilets i can assure you from experience that it is a small price well spent.

To sum it up great riding, awesome scenery and bloody knackering you`ll be glad to see the finish line........but well worth it.

Hope this helps anybody,happy riding
